Do you convertible owners drop the top when it’s nice out but the road is still wet? I feel like the other cars kicking that up would be like dirty rain but maybe I’m wrong?
Clearly the cars we’re all driving...

If it’s warm and not too muggy, yep.
Top down as much as reasonably possible.

So does the mist get everywhere or does moving forward push it away due to the aero effects?

A lot of variables - how wet it is, how fast you’re going, etc. But generally no it doesn’ t.
At 65 mph in my E46 it has to be raining pretty hard for me to get wet at all ( back seat is a different story, and yes I’ve tested this).

Nice. Figured I might just wear coveralls and a race helmet lol actually other stupid convertible question: ever just drive around with a race helmet on?

Yes. That’s the best time for top-down shenanigans because wet roads mean you can slide around corners safely and dry sky means you get the full 360° view. Best of both worlds!
I've never noticed any kind of spray getting inside from other vehicles, puddles, whatever. Not even when offroading at high speeds in the mud. Gets all over the exterior, but the inside seems to be safe. Something something air pressure, convergence zone, yata yata....

No, I haven’t - mostly because I don’t own one I guess.
The best kind of convertible is one you don’t care * too* much about - so you can drive it with the top down in less than perfect weather.
Hell - look at aestheticsinmotion’s history with his NA.

Was hoping you’d chime in on this one.
For what it’s worth, the back seat in a 4 place car can get some spray if it’s bad, or raining. Not an issue f or you!

To answer your question, yes you can and should do so.
Beyond that, I used to occasionally drive in the rain with the top down when I had my S2000. When you are at above 50mph or so , you do not get rained on. But if you have to come to a stop, well, you will quickly become moist.

If you’re that worried about road spray, just keep more distance between you and whatever car you’re following.
I drove my Miata on wet roads with the top down. No real issues. If you wait for the perfect day, you’re going to be waiting a long time.

I would love a 4 door convertible for summer. Maybe an e46, or even a newer BMW... Seems like it could be a lot of fun with a few friends on a nice day

So far my opportunities would have been in other people's cars and I'd feel bad... but soon?

They’re
great
-
but
I
warn
you,
the
E46
convertible
back
seat
is
tiny,
especially
on
leg
room.
Look
closely
at
the
rear
seat
room
if
you
plan
to
use
it.
I
think
the
E90
is
better
in
that
area.

Thats a good place to start since there's no real top for a slingshot anyway..

Total non-sequitur, but I've secretly wanted to get a white full face helmet, white racing jacket and drive around in them in something like a slingshot and see if it gets people thinking that an episode of Top Gear was filming near by..

I generally avoid driving the TR6 in wet at all because rust but I have gotten caught in a little rain a couple times. Unfortunately around here there’s no way to keep up enough to not get you and the ( not mint but still pretty decent) interior wet.
